Grimm & Co

Sidekick PR delivers a number of pro bono projects each year for charities, for Grimm & Co we were asked to complete a full communication audit of the organisation.

Grimm & Co is a registered charity with the core purpose to change lives one story at a time. The organisation, based in Rotherham, supports under-resourced children and young people aged 0 to 18 with their confidence and skills around creativity and writing.

The brief

Without dedicated communications expertise within the small team at Grimm & Co, the charity realised they needed to understand in more detail who their key audiences are and how they were currently communicating with them.

This information would be vital to enable Grimm & Co to develop a more strategic and targeting approach to their communications, ensuring their key messages are getting to the right people at the right time and helping to secure the longer-term future of the charity.

As Charlotte on our team is a proud Trustee of the charity, the project was led and delivered by Kirstie and Eve, to avoid any conflict of interest.

Delivery

An initial briefing and fact-finding meeting was held with the chief executive of Grimm & Co to review all the current communication methods used by the charity, understand the reasoning behind them as well as to find out key information such as the systems used, staff involved and frequency all items were issued. This enabled Sidekick PR to have all the relevant background information before the detailed analysis began.

Following this meeting, the Sidekick team began the research process and looked at six key areas of Grimm & Co’s communication activity - the website, annual review, newsletters, staff survey, wider media and social media. The final element was a full review of the marketplace Grimm & Co sits within to demonstrate what similar organisations across the country were doing for comparison purposes.

The results

A full report was presented to Grimm & Co which could them be reported back at their next board meeting. The document provided a detailed breakdown objectively reviewing each
area of Grimm & Co’s communication activity and giving clear recommendations throughout to enhance what’s being done by the charity.

This coordinated and consistent approach and concise results helped the charity to think more creatively about what they are doing to communicate with both internal and external audiences and importantly, how they could improve their offering.
