Who has access to your social media channels?

There is never a bad time to do a review of who has access to your social media channels. Often, you'll find people who have left the organisation have not been removed as admins from pages, or may even still be a member of your company WhatApp groups. 

Protecting your channels, your data and your information is well worth the time it takes to do an access review.

Create a centralised access log

Maintain a master document or dashboard that lists all social media platforms your company uses, who has access (and at what level), when access was granted and when it was last reviewed. This helps track changes and ensures accountability.

Review access regularly

Review the access log on a regular basis and remove anyone who is no longer with the company or no longer requires access as part of their role. Better still, update your leavers' offboarding process to ensure this happens the day they go, alongside their email and system access.

Protect your channels

Many companies have internal WhatsApp groups or other communication channels. such as Slack or Facebook Messenger groups. Ensure you're checking these regularly too, you could find yourself with a crisis on your hands if information that you think you are discussing internally is actually visible to ex-employees. 

Include in your crisis plan

Your company crisis plan should cover what to do in the event of a social media or internal channel breach. Make sure it includes who to contact and the steps to follow to secure all accounts.
