Phew! What a year that was. The last twelve months have been go-go-go here at Sidekick, so in the name of nostalgia, we’ve taken a look back over 2016 and picked out our best bits:
When three become one
2016 was the year Sidekick took shape in its current form.
Having each worked for ourselves, the three of us – Kirstie, Eve and Charlotte – decided to join forces in the first half of the year, merging our existing client bases and bringing in new ones too, such as national hotel management firm, Interstate Europe Hotels & Resorts, and London-based medical supplies company, DP Medical Systems.
The year also saw us set up shop in our first office premises, basing ourselves in the heart of Sheffield’s industrial Kelham Island quarter, with numerous good pubs and fab foodie haunts on our doorstep!
A trip to the seaside
One of the first projects we worked on together was a campaign around Pete McKee’s biggest ever exhibition, ‘6 Weeks to Eternity’, in May.
It was great fun seeing the show come together, taking audiences on a nostalgic journey back to the summer holidays of the past, complete with a helter skelter, candy floss, fish and chips and more.
More than 8,000 people attended the two-day exhibition, making it Pete’s most successful event to date.
Grassroots gets going
We loved working with our Leicester-based client GFORCE Teamwear to help them create a community-focused programme designed to increase their engagement with young sports teams across the country.
GFORCE Grassroots launched in the summer, targeting the midlands region in the first instance and granting sports teams and clubs funding to help them achieve their goals.
The programme is set to expand this year, targeting other areas of the country and helping more young sportspeople recognise their ambitions on the playing field.
Never ones to turn down a trip away, we enjoyed hosting several press trips to Europe during 2016 as part of the launch of Flybe’s new routes from Doncaster Sheffield Airport.
From cycling in Berlin to segwaying beneath the Eiffel Tower, we gave journalists and bloggers from across Yorkshire an exciting and unique insight into what’s on offer to travellers flying on the new routes.
Awards and accolades
And last but certainly not least, it’s been an award-winning year for our clients. Sidekick-penned entries secured top prizes for two of our Doncaster-based clients, with Michael Hart of Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust being named Business Person of the Year and Doncaster Sheffield Airport taking the award for Customer Service – both at this year’s Doncaster Chamber Business Awards.
Our very own Charlotte Dimond also clocked up an impressive accolade earlier in the year, achieving CIPR Chartered status and becoming one of only a handful of PR practitioners with the title in the country. Go girl!
What will 2017? We can't wait to find out! Watch this space...
